This route of medium difficulty runs entirely through the coastal roads of the most beautiful branch of Lake Como that has enchanted the aristocracy for centuries. Our route will take us through Nesso, a picturesque village known for its natural gorge located at the mouth of the Tuf and Nosè valleys; the historic city of Como; and finally the elegant villas such as Villa Olmo, Villa d’Este and Villa Carlotta. A famous and iconic climb for road cyclists, where many past and present cycling champions have left their wheel prints on, at least once...now it's your turn. This climb is not only historical, it is immersed in beautiful scenery with several breathtaking viewpoints over Lake Como and Bellagio.

We will make an obligatory stop for a quick visit and a photo in the cycling church and proceed to the feared Muro di Sormano, one of the hardest climbs in Italy with an average gradient of 17%  and 1.7-kilometre long. There is a more gentle road that goes around it, for those of us that don't feel up to Muro on the day.

For the more adventurous of you, who need to conquer the double Stelvio, we continue down the northern side through the famous 48 hairpins to Prato. The support mini bus will be on hand for any who prefer to take on this challenge. From Prato we briefly pass into Switzerland and begin the final 12km ascent along the Umbrail pass with an average gradient of nearly 10%. Bon courage to all those that attempt the big mountains. We will count the well signposted, 22 hairpin turns, where the gradient averages around 10%. This section is where Pantani made his famous solo attack during the 1994 Giro d'Italia, which helped him win the stage and secure his first Grand Tour victory.

The ascent finishes at an altitude of 1,416 meters, at the summit of Monte Carpegna. Overall, the route today is quite challenging but offers stunning views of the surrounding landscape and on the way back to Riccione we can relax on long straight stretches of downhill roads.
